Very few Mercedes-Benz 680S 36/220 Sport4 exist in the world today.
The new chassis S-Type was intended to replace his predecessor K-Type. While the K-Type was big, heavy and large, the S-Type was the exact opposite. Conceived and designed by Ferdinand Porsche, the new S-Type was a leap forward in engineering.
The new car boasted a more powerful 6.7-liter inline six. Combined with two carburetors thermal and an engine output of Roots type Supercharger increased to 180 hp. Bodywork designed by Sindelfingen have contributed to reduce weight and lower closer to the ground, they were equipped with live axles, front and rear springs and semi-elliptic leaf
In the hands of Rudolf Carracciola, the S-Type would prove almost unbeatable, scoring a number of victories and propagating the reputation of Mercedes Benz beyond the Atlantic.
